"My passion for cooking began over 20 years ago when I joined my mother in a culinary venture and we created a successful International cafe in Miami, Florida. Being the first generation of Cuban Americans, I was exposed to Cuba’s diverse culture and its colorful cuisine. I am inspired by the recipes passed down from my grandmothers to newer recipes that my mother adapted when they migrated to the United States.

The Café is more than a business to us--it is a tribute to our family members that cherished their Cuban culture and taught us what family & love is all about.

I am grateful to be given this opportunity to share a sliver of this vast and rich cuisine and culture with the Black Mountain community and all those that visit." - Beatriz (Betty)

George Williams founded the YMCA in London in 1844, and Asheville established its Y in 1889. Today the YMCA of Western North Carolina is one of the largest associations in the state.

Since 1889, the YMCA of Western North Carolina has strengthened the foundations of the communities we serve. We do this by nurturing children, promoting well-being, and giving back to our neighbors in need. Our core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility guide everything we do.

We've been here in Black Mountain for since 2008. Although we began as a tropical fish store, we quickly realized that the real need for the community is a place that sells quality food and other supplies for
the growing number of household pets. Today, we carry the best food and all of the things you need to take care of your pet.

My Carolina Mountain Life

We started in the fall of 2022 to drive collaboration, awareness, and celebration of all things Black Mountain. We felt it was important for Black Mountain to control the narrative about our town instead of Asheville. We have so much more to offer and lots of great local events that needed a local voice and a community calendar for residents and visitors alike to see all the great things happening around town. It’s our way of giving back to the community.

Troop 2498

Blazing trails and redefining what’s possible for girls everywhere? Girl Scouts have been true to this since 1912.

Juliette Gordon Low—also known widely by her nickname, “Daisy”—started Girl Scouts in 1912 in her hometown of Savannah, Georgia. The first troop was made up of 18 girls who all shared a sense of curiosity and a belief that they could do anything.
