Farmers Market Operations Coordinator (Part-Time Employee)

Black Mountain Tailgate Market is a community-centered organization focused on supporting local farms, artisans, food access programs, and a vibrant local economy. The market serves as a weekly gathering place for farmers, makers, families, neighbors, and visitors alike.

We are seeking a reliable, organized, community-minded employee to support weekly market operations and vendor administration. This role is ideal for someone interested in gaining hands-on experience in farmers market operations, event coordination, or small business management while working closely with local farmers, makers, and the Black Mountain community.

This is a part-time hourly role combining remote administrative work with on-site support during Saturday market hours.

Schedule

• Approximately 10–15 hours per week
• Saturdays on-site during market season, generally 7:00 AM – 1:30 PM
• Flexible remote administrative work during the week

Core Responsibilities

• Support smooth Saturday market operations alongside the Market Director
• Serve as a primary operational support contact for vendors both at the Saturday market, and some remote support during the week via email/phone/occasional on site meetings
• Help maintain a welcoming, efficient, and community-focused market environment
• Support administrative organization and operational follow-through throughout the market season

Tasks

• Maintain awareness of weekly vendor schedules, booth placements, and market flow
• Assist with market setup and breakdown, including tents, tables, signage, and information booth
• Greet customers and assist vendors with setup, breakdown, and operational questions
• Coordinate vendor communication and weekly administrative support
• Record and organize vendor payments, transactions, and operational records
• Assist with SNAP and related food access program transaction tracking and vendor reimbursement records
• Support attendance tracking, market reporting, and operational documentation
• Help manage traffic flow, timing, and general market logistics during Saturday operations
• Assist with special events, programming, and community engagement activities

Qualifications

• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Comfortable balancing administrative work with hands-on outdoor work
• Familiarity with common payment and transaction tools such as Square, Venmo, and QuickBooks Payments is a plus
• Comfortable working independently and problem-solving in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and remain active throughout market hours
• Experience with farmers markets, events, hospitality, or small business operations preferred

Compensation

• Hourly part-time pay, $20 - $25 hourly based on experience
