Community Impact
Who We Are
Nourish Appalachia is a community-led initiative of the Black Mountain Tailgate Market, working to strengthen Western North Carolina’s local food system through connection, compassion, and resilience. We believe that food is more than sustenance - it’s the thread that weaves our community together.
We work to:
-
Support small farmers, makers, and food producers who keep our region fed.
-
Increase access to fresh, local food for everyone in our community.
-
Build partnerships that promote sustainable and just food systems.
-
Celebrate the stories and people that make Appalachian food culture thrive.
How We Help
Support Local Farmers
We help small farmers and food producers grow thriving businesses that keep our community fed and resilient.
Increase Food Access
We partner with local markets and organizations to make fresh, healthy food available to everyone - no matter their income.
Build Community Connections
We bring neighbors together through food, education, and shared stories that celebrate Appalachian resilience.

A leader, educator, advocate, wife and mother, this powerhouse of a lady-farmer is a consummate steward of land and people. After Hurricane Helene, her neighborhood was cut off. During that time, she fed her neighbors fresh, organic produce right from her farm.
